Completely normal, and you are not alone. Needle worry is one of the most common reasons people hesitate to start.
A few things that genuinely help.
The needle is smaller than you are picturing.
It goes just under the skin (not into muscle). It is short and very thin. Most people say the first one is the hardest, and after that it becomes routine.
You get to pick the spot.
Belly, thigh, or upper arm. Rotate between them each week. Many people find one area more comfortable than the others.
Expert tips!
Cold helps. Hold an ice pack on the spot for a minute first. It takes the edge off.
Do not watch if watching makes it worse. Look away. It is over in a couple of seconds.
Ask about the pill
Oral GLP-1 medications do exist now so ask your provider what is best for you.
If needles are a genuine phobia rather than nerves, say so. Your provider needs to know, and we have options.
