Often, yes and it is worth asking about before you give up on treatment altogether.
Why people switch
• Side effects that never settle down.
• Progress has stalled.
• Cost or availability.
• One simply suits them better.
What to expect
Your dose will change. These medications are not interchangeable unit for unit. Your provider will usually restart you lower and build back up. That is deliberate and it keeps side effects down.
You may have a settling-in period again. Mild stomach symptoms can come back for a week or two.
Do not switch on your own. Do not overlap doses, and never guess at a conversion. Dosing mistakes with these medications are a real source of harm.
How to ask
Message your Care Team through the portal and tell them what is not working. Be specific. “Nausea every Tuesday and Wednesday” is far more useful than “side effects.”
