How do I take my medication?

Your medication comes with instructions written for your prescription. Always follow those instructions over anything in this article.

This article provides general guidance for preparing and taking your medication. If anything in your instructions is different, follow the instructions that came with your prescription.

Wash your hands. Gather your vial, a new syringe, and two alcohol swabs.

Check your medication label before you begin. Make sure it shows your name, medication, and prescribed dose.

1. Clean the top of the vial with an alcohol swab and let it dry.

2. Draw up the exact dose listed in your prescription instructions. Use the syringe markings as directed in those instructions.

3. Choose an injection site as directed in your prescription instructions. If your instructions allow more than one site, use a different site each week.

4. Clean the injection site with the second alcohol swab and let it dry. Do not touch the cleaned area before injecting.

5. Follow the injection instructions provided with your prescription.

6. Place the used syringe in a sharps container right away. Do not reuse needles or place them in household trash.

• Take your medication on the same day each week, as close to the same time as you can.

• Follow the storage instructions that came with your medication.

• A small amount of bleeding or bruising can happen after an injection.

Stop and message your Care Team through the TrimRx portal before taking your medication if:

• The liquid looks cloudy or has particles in it

• The vial was left out and you are not sure how long

• The syringe markings do not seem to match your prescription instructions

• You are not sure you have drawn the correct amount
